The Isola Sacra Necropolis: To Live and Die in a Roman Colony
€60
per personDiscover the mystery of death in Ancient Rome exploring 2000 years-old perfectly preserved tombs
The Isola Sacra Necropolis (or Necropolis of Portus) is located at about 30 Km from the center of Rome and only 4 Km from the International Airport Leonardo da Vinci. It is a wide sacred-funeral archeological site which developed along the ancient via Flavia-Severiana from the I century AD onwards. About 100 tombs, surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful countryside, cover an area of about 500 meters. Along the itinerary you will have the opportunity to observe and even to enter into the ancient and abandoned tombs which still partly preserve fascinating decorations (frescos and stuccos). Thanks to the still existing inscriptions and by means of the stories they tell, you will meet people buried there 2000 years ago.
Entrance to the necropolis is free.
